    Humboldt fog. Santa Cruz sun. L.A. nights. Three generations of California growers turned an outlaw crop into a craft. We sift it cold, press it by hand, seal it in foil and put a monster on the front. That's it. That's the whole trick.

    From outlaw crop to Golden State icon

    1. 1970s

      The Emerald Triangle

      Back-to-the-land growers settle the hills of Humboldt, Mendocino and Trinity, and California's outdoor legend is born.

    2. 1996

      Prop 215

      California becomes the first state in the US to legalize medical cannabis.

    3. 2016

      Prop 64

      Voters approve adult use for anyone 21 and over.

    4. 2018

      Doors open

      Licensed adult-use sales begin statewide on January 1.
